Conclusion
Realization of the objectives
- We developed a new extinguishing technology to prevent air pollution caused by tank fires, suitable for extinguishing even the largest storage tank fires.
- We were able to eliminate soil pollution with the help of our newly developed foam introduction device.
- We created the foam effectiveness factor suitable for comparing the different extinguishing strategies and we also presented the benefits of its practical use.
- We sorted out the optimal geometrical scheme of foam introduction.
- We discovered the scientific explanation for the drawbacks and anomalies of the wall-effect occurring during extinguishing.
- We embodied a foam supplying solution which the operation parameters can be freely used with adjusting to tank size.
- We proposed to introduce new rules for extinguishing tactics based on an environmentally aware fire safety strategy.
- We developed a design procedure adaptable in practice for engineers.
- We built a number of automatically operating, autonomous extinguishing equipment functioning safely even in the lack of any external sources or infrastructure.
Impacts of introducing the new technology on the safety of environment
- The new extinguishing technology prevents air, soil and underground water pollution caused by storage tank fire.
- Equipment is simple, it offers high reliability, it requires minimal maintenance.
- It is guaranteed to operate in the lack of water supply, energy or human involvement, under difficult approaching circumstances.
- This system functions even under extreme weather conditions (-30/+60 C°).
- It is suitable for extinguishing the fire at any type of storage tank.
- Less amount of extinguishing agent is needed, so it is economical.
- Beside tank protection, it is also suitable for the protection of other dangerous substance stores (engine compartment of military vehicles, generator engines, stores of flammable chemicals, ammunition and pyrotechnic substances).
